The Technical Committee is the central body for the development of standards and other technical evolutions in the IMDA. To organize the high workload, the TC assigns working groups for certain work packages. It coordinates, discusses and counsels its assigned working groups in every step of their work. Thus the TC ensures that receiver capabilites and backend technologies are compatible and that the IMDA doesn’t create standards which already exist elsewhere.

The TC is comprised of representatives from IMDA member organisations and meets quarterly.

Metadata working group

Chairman – Metadata
Alan OGILVIE
(BBC)

The Metadata working group is currently the most important working group of the TC. It developed and published the IMDA Service Identification for Broadcasters & Aggregators in an attempt to standardise the industry of Internet Radio, in the first instance, and establish a working framework for future media services.

This framework is currently being extended to incorporate additional services for the benefit of internet radio listener (e.g. EPG, live text info, slideshow).

The related documents of the IMDA Service Identification can be found here.

Central Discovery Service working group

Chairman – Central Discovery Service
Sebastian KETT
(SWR)

The Central Discovery Service working group works alongside the Metadata working group, to give broadcasters an easy-to-use way of sending notifications to a central entity (the CDS) around changes in their metadata. Such notifications will then be automatically forwarded to every registered aggregator.

That’s why the CDS is the second cornerstone for the harmonization of the exchange of metadata and additional services for the benefit of internet radio listeners.

Receiver Profiles working group

Chairman – Receiver Profiles
Andy GIEFER (ArtisticEngines)

Within the Receiver Profiles working group, the IMDA tries to break all the different technologies in the Internet Media ecosystem down to a set of logical modules. Receiver manufacturers can certificate their devices to show their compatibility with the Internet media ecosystem.

The IMDA’s Device Profiles and Certification documents can be found here.
